Panagis Vourloumis was born in Athens on 30/04/1937. He studied at London School of Economics and the World Bank Development Institute. During the period 1966-1973 he worked for the International Finance Corporation in Washington D.C, from which he left as Head of Southeast Asia department.
From 1974 to 1977 he worked in Indonesia leading an Investment Bank and returned to Greece as a representative of the Manufacturers Hanover Trust. In 1979 he became General Manager of Eboriki Bank, a position which he held until 1981.
Afterwards he worked as an independent Business Consultant and in 1988 he co-established Alpha Finance with Alpha Bank, where he remained Chairman and Managing Director until 2000. At the same time he was Chief Executive of Alpha Bank and also Project Manager and Chairman of the Management Board of Banca Bucuresti, the first private bank in Romania, which was later, renamed Alpha Bank Romania.
From 2000 to 2004 he served as Chairman of Frigoglass and Aegean Baltic Bank. In April 2004 he was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of OTE as well as Chairman of Cosmote and Romtelecom until November 2010.
He served as member of Board of Directors for institutions such as SEB, IOBE, and ELIAMEP as well as for Cerebral Palsy Greece and Food Bank.
He is the author of the book “Social Security system in simple terms” (2002) and has written many articles for economic and political newspapers and magazines.
