On Tuesday 20 October, at 8 PM, at the Athens War Museum, through a Photography exhibition held at the museum, as well as the participation of journalists, friends and associates, the 20th silent contribution of the foundation was presented. In this event they had the opportunity to meet volunteers, companies, foundations, who all these years have offered more than 16.300 tons of food, beverages, detergents and personal hygiene products.
The Food Bank was founded in 1995 by Gerasimos Vasilopoulos, who envisioned a non-profit foundation that would everyday offer food to children, elders, and people in need.
For 20 years the Foundation has developed been trusted by more then 410 nursing homes, orphanages, rations, while today it is collaborating with 144 foundations on all of Attica for more than 23.000 fellow humans.
The Bank’s work is a collaboration of a team consisting of volunteers, entrepreneurs, businesses, foundations and NGO organizations. With a central moto “We do not throw anything away”, the bank’s suppliers offer products in a daily basis that are either close to their expiration dates or have faulty packaging, but have not been altered or spoiled. Next the Food Bank distributes them to foundations, rations and love meals. There the volunteers of the Foundations cook every day, securing a plate of food to those in need.
