The Friendly Nest is an "open" structure opening daily from 10 am until early afternoon. It accommodates children from 6-16 years and supports them in many ways: from providing food, clothing and support teaching, to participation in educational and cultural activities and the organization of their summer holidays. "The Nest," says Mr. Pyrounakis, "hosted this year 170 children of all social, racial and religious backgrounds. This is twice as many as compared to pre-crisis times. But I am optimistic because, although one would expect that now it would be very difficult to meet the increased needs, something touching is happening: Misery has mobilized the ordinary people, who are offering us all they can, from their want, as well as doing volunteer work to alleviate the misery of their fellow-men”.
